An officer with the San Antonio Airport Police Department found herself on the wrong side of the law after being arrested for driving while intoxicated. Rubi Tovar, who was off-duty at the time, was taken into custody by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office late Monday night, as FOX San Antonio reported.

The incident unfolded just after 10 pm when authorities were called to a McDonald’s. According to KSAT, Tovar apparently had passed out in the drive-thru line before deputies could to arrive and make contact with her. They observed her exhibiting signs of intoxication, including slurred speech and an odor of alcohol. Tovar refused to submit to field sobriety tests, prompting deputies to apply for a blood warrant for her arrest.

Tovar, 36, has been an employee of the San Antonio Airport Police for a year. Following her arrest on the Class B misdemeanor charge, she was placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of an administrative investigation led by the Airport Police, as FOX San Antonio detailed.

After posting a bond of $1,000, Tovar was released from jail Tuesday afternoon. The San Antonio Police Department spokesperson stated that the situation is being taken seriously and reasserted their commitment to act accordingly based on the results of the investigation, echoing the administrative steps already to be taken as noted by the Airport Police, as KSAT reported.
