San Antonio's cultural scene is buzzing with activities this weekend, whether you're in the mood to dance your heart out barefoot, immerse yourself in classical tones, or celebrate the arts in a vibrant, community setting.
According to the San Antonio Report, Civic Park in Hemisfair is hosting Sound Cream Sunset Sessions tonight, starting from 7:30 p.m. The night promises a rhythmic journey to the Rio Grande Valley, with DJ Flacucho & Mala Mia on the decks. This shoe-optional dance party is a free event, offering an al fresco experience that pairs perfectly with San Antonio's balmy summer nights.
For those who lean more toward a classical repertoire, the Cactus Pear Music Festival is back with its 28th annual edition. "On The Fly", a concert taking place on Friday at 7 p.m., will be held at the University of the Incarnate Word’s Diane Bennack Hall. Rebecca Clarke, Beethoven, and George Gershwin are among the featured composers, offering a night of chamber music set to rejuvenate the soul with melodies old and new.
Saturday's calendar is also full, with El Gran Día de los Artistas from noon to 6 p.m. at Centro Cultural Aztlan. This celebration, which is also free to the public, marks the nonprofit's 47th year. Attendees can look forward to an eclectic mix of live music, poetry, art demonstrations, and an artisan market with works from local creators.
The weekend culminates on Sunday at Urban-15, which is throwing a "Semi-Centennial Celebration" in honor of its 50-year legacy from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The space on South Presa Street will be alive with the sounds of DJ Despeinada, and performances by Los de Esta Noche, who are set to deliver a setlist that's as enticing to the ears as it is to the dancing feet.
Not ready to let go of the weekend on Monday? The Hermann Sons building downtown is open for a guided tour, starting at the Rathskeller Bar, then climbing up to see the bowling alley, ballroom, and rooftop with historic views. Tours are $10 and begin at a time that seems to blend practical history with a dash of throwback fun.
