As the city grapples with the ripple effects of a fatal shooting, local foundation The One in Five Foundation for Kids has stepped forward to provide support for the bereaved. Ayden Rose Burt, a Texas teacher and coach, was the unintended victim of a rooftop shooting in downtown San Antonio. In a factual statement obtained by Fox San Antonio, the foundation's founder Daniel Chapin expressed "We are heartbroken to learn of the loss of this beloved and dedicated teacher and coach & stand in solidarity with the Jasper ISD family at this time. Gun violence continues to take its toll on our dedicated teachers and students across this nation, both on and off campuses. The time is now to end it. Not on the steps of the capital, but through changing a culture of violence which as in this case, took yet another promising life. Our foundation extends its support and empathy to the family at this time."
The incident took place at Smoke Skybar, where Burt was attending an event hosted by the Hispanic TXHSFB Coaches Association. It was part of her visit to the Texas High School Coaches Association Coaching School and Conference. Joe Martin, executive director of THSCA, reflected on the gravity of the loss, describing Burt as "a wonderful person and a great coach," and the shooting as "truly unimaginable."
