
A cyclist on the Northwest side of San Antonio is now fighting for his life in the ICU after a collision with a vehicle Wednesday night. According to FOX San Antonio, the incident occurred near the corner of Babcock Road and Eckhert Road around 8:30 p.m., where police allege the cyclist was riding against traffic, heading north in the southbound lanes.
The man in his 20s was subsequently hit by a driver emerging from a restaurant, the consequence of an apparent wrong-way ride that left him critically injured, he was taken to University Hospital for urgent care, and neither intoxication nor impairment has been suggested in the tragic mishap on either side. In a statement obtained by FOX San Antonio, authorities indicated that the driver did stop at the scene, and the event is actively under investigation.
In a similar report by KSAT, the victim was described as a man in his late 20s, riding a black electric bicycle when the accident unfolded. He crashed into the front of a truck as it was leaving a driveway, leading to his critical injuries. The impact was severe enough to throw the man from the bike with life-threatening consequences, according to a preliminary report from San Antonio police, and the driver, who has been cooperating with the investigation, is currently not facing any charges.
