In a disheartening revelation of animal neglect, Bexar County authorities have charged Michael Moore, a 57-year-old man, after finding over 26 dogs in a state of severe mistreatment. According to FOX San Antonio, Moore is facing charges related to the failure to provide necessary care to non-livestock animals, which includes providing food, water, and shelter, as well as charges for abandonment and transporting in a cruel manner.
The case unfolded after reports from concerned residents about an increase of rats and neglect toward the dogs were made. On the scene at the 7800 block of Fossil Banks, deputies were greeted with an intense smell and discovered the dogs in what was described by animal control officers as some of the worst living conditions they'd encountered. "The rescued animals were taken to a local veterinarian for examination. Most were found to suffer from poor body weight, visible spines and ribs, urine stains on their fur, and feces encrusted in their paws and nails," according to detailed descriptions from News 4 San Antonio.
Among the dogs found, one was deceased. The survivors were immediately seized by the authorities and taken for medical examinations by a a local veterinarian, who confirmed the suspect conditions of malnourishment and neglect.
Michael Moore has since posted a $2,000 bond after being taken into custody. Authorities are awaiting the outcome of the medical examinations for the potential of additional charges.
