An off-duty officer from the San Antonio Police Department, Andrew Gonzalez, finds himself on the wrong side of the law, facing charges of making a terroristic threat against family. According to KENS 5, Gonzalez was arrested after a family member reported the alleged threat to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office this past Sunday.
Gonzalez, who has been a part of the SAPD for eight years, was placed on administrative duty following his arrest. This marks the third arrest of an SAPD officer in 2024, signaling a troubling trend within the department. An administrative investigation by the SAPD is now underway, as informed by KSAT.
The details of the incident remain scant, but the ramifications for Gonzalez's career and the reputation of the SAPD could be substantial. The Bexar County Sheriff's Office has taken up the criminal investigation of the case to ensure a policing body external to SAPD handles the proceedings. With Gonzalez reassigned to nondisciplinary duties, the police department and the public await the outcomes of both investigations.
