An 86-year-old San Antonio man, Jose Santos Hernandez, is recovering from injuries sustained during a home invasion and robbery that took place on July 16. According to KENS 5, Hernandez was approached by a woman asking for water which led to a man entering his home, assaulting him, and stealing $400. Hernandez was left with a serious cut and a broken elbow.

Surveillance footage released by the San Antonio Police depicts the suspects giving each other a high-five after the alleged robbery. Both suspects were recorded by security cameras and were seen sporting matching outfits during the incident. The police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspects, as reported by KENS 5. The duo appears to be a man and a woman, with the woman having a noticeable blonde streak on the front, left side of her head.

Hernandez, who has lived in his home for the past 20 years, expressed shock as nothing like this had ever happened to him before. In a statement obtained by KENS 5, he detailed how the incident unfolded, starting with his kind gesture of providing a glass of water and ending in a traumatic robbery.

A report from the San Antonio Police Department outlined the details of the crime, and Hernandez described the struggle with the male intruder to KSAT 12 News, saying he cut his hands and injured his elbow trying to protect his belongings. Santos Hernandez, who speaks only Spanish, mentioned through an interview that while the loss of money does not concern him greatly, he does wish for the suspects to face justice.

The San Antonio Police Department's Robbery Task Force is actively investigating the case and requests that anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspects call (210) 207-0300. Additionally, Crime Stoppers can be reached at (210) 224-STOP (7867) for those wishing to provide anonymous tips.
