The Paris 2024 Olympic Games have begun, and the city of San Antonio has a vested interest, as locals gear up to watch their pride, Victor Wembanyama made his Olympic debut. The young star was the San Antonio Spurs' 2023 No. 1 Draft Pick and is now one of the 139 current, and former NBA and WNBA players participating in the Games, as reported by the San Antonio Report.
The extravaganza introduced more than two weeks of intense competition across 30 sports, which will culminate on August 11. Among the excited San Antonians watching was Alinne De La Grange, who, with her two sons, looked forward to catching a glimpse of Wembanyama aboard the France contingent's boat. "When everyone is interested in watching this, it makes people come together for their countries, no matter what’s going on in the world," De La Grange said, in an interview provided by the San Antonio Report.
Wembanyama is set to take the court with the French basketball team in Group B as they face off against Brazil, Germany, and Japan. His appearances are slated for the coming Saturday and then again on August 2, with potential games in the quarterfinals scheduled for August 6, and, should they continue to succeed, on August 8 and 10. Fans can tune in to watch Wembanyama via NBC, on NBCOlympics.com, the NBC Replay Hub, and on Peacock, starting July 27, in addition to Telemundo providing Spanish-language coverage.
Debbie Berger shared an emotional moment, stating, "There’s so much going on right now that we are not united, and it brings us all together," as reported by the San Antonio Report. Meanwhile, Chicken N Pickle is hosting an over-21 Bar Olympics on Sunday, including events like corn hole and pickle pong, as the Paris Olympics play on large TV screens—a testament to the enduring spirit of games and friendly competition.
