Two years after a grim discovery, Mary Diaz, a San Antonio woman, pleaded guilty to the murder of her boyfriend, Christopher Jones. Diaz, aged 38, accepted a 25-year plea deal related to the 2020 crime. This development in the harrowing case of domestic violence comes as a semblance of closure to Jones' family, who had been seeking answers for their loved one's tragic death.
According to FOX San Antonio, family members became alarmed when Jones stopped returning calls, leading them to the bleak truth. Jones had been sharing an apartment with Diaz before he was found dead from a suppressed gunshot wound. Diaz, who was pregnant with Jones' child at the time, was using his car and debit cards, fabricating stories about his whereabouts while he was missing.
The case took a turn when neighbors reported seeing Diaz driving Jones' car and after at least two witnesses came forward, claiming Diaz confessed to shooting Jones. News 4 San Antonio detailed that Diaz initially misled authorities, suggesting Jones had moved to California or Ohio and left her all his possessions, a story debunked by phone records placing both Diaz and Jones in the same area at the time of his death.
In a statement obtained by FOX San Antonio, Bexar County Criminal District Attorney Joe Gonzales said, "Mary Díaz must be held accountable for her actions. We stand with the Jones family in their grief and hope this resolution offers them some solace."
