Over the Fourth of July weekend, waters in San Bernardino County witnessed an enforcement operation that resulted in a wave of arrests and citations. According to the SBSD - Colorado River Sheriffs Department, their Marine Enforcement Unit cracked down on unsafe boating practices from the Colorado River to Big Bear Lake and Lake Arrowhead.
The four-day operation deployed 11 patrol vessels, specialized teams, and helicopters, emphasizing the importance of sober boating. They executed 203 enforcement stops. The patrol's vigilance led to 10 arrests for boating under the influence, and 79 citations for other boating law violations, alongside hundreds of verbal warnings, as reported by the Colorado River Sheriff's Department.
Among the individuals arrested for boating under the influence, the list includes Michael Higuera, Jared Tavenner, and Anthony Esparza, as cited by the official press release. The operation also responded to a boat fire in the Topock Gorge area and investigated both an injury boat accident on Big Bear Lake and a non-injury boat accident at Needles Marina, fortunately resulting in no fatalities.
