San Bruno Police Department announced their success in capturing two alleged car thieves last Saturday, ending a rapid chase that saw multiple law enforcement agencies coordinate across San Mateo County. The San Bruno Police Department detailed the events that led to the arrest of the suspects, aged 33 and 32, both residents of Hayward.
Acting upon information from the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office in Millbrae, the San Bruno police were alerted of a vehicle with stolen plates making its way into the suburb, which initiated the pursuit early Saturday morning. The described sequence of events unfolded rapidly as law enforcement deployed spike strips at a strategic intersection that simultaneously disabled not one but two vehicles, the second of which had just been reported stolen within San Bruno.
The coordinated trap set by the SBPD, along with assistance from the South San Francisco, Colma, Broadmoor, and Daly City police departments, proved fruitful. The two suspects were apprehended before they could flee on foot. According to the San Bruno Police Department, both individuals were booked into San Mateo County Jail. In light of the arrests, law enforcement has noted an alarming rise in vehicle thefts throughout the Bay Area, which have been linked to various crimes ranging from public nuisances like sideshows to more grievous acts of violence.
