A brazen robbery was averted when San Diego Police Officers arrested a suspect following a short chase in the Teralta West neighborhood. The incident occurred yesterday evening at the American Gold Exchange store at 4109 El Cajon Blvd. According to the SDPD Watch Commander's Log, a 35-year-old male suspect donning a ski mask, armed with a handgun, stormed into the store and demanded cash from the workers.
The employees, faced with the immediate threat, complied with the demands and handed over an undisclosed sum of money to the assailant. Nevertheless, the suspect's escape was cut short as fate would have it. SDPD officers, coincidentally arriving at the scene, prompted a chase on foot. Officer J. Perales reported that the officers managed to apprehend the suspect, who was subsequently arrested and faced robbery charges. The weapon and the stolen cash were recovered at the site of the arrest.
Following the arrest, detectives from the San Diego Police Department Robbery Unit were called to take charge of the ongoing investigation. In a statement obtained by the SDPD, they cited that the coordination of the officers on duty played a crucial role in successfully capturing the fleeing suspect. The efficiency and swift action of the San Diego Police not only prevented the loss of the store's assets but also ensured the safety of its employees and patrons.
San Diego Police have encouraged anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward. They affirm the value of community involvement in keeping neighborhoods like Teralta West safe.
