Hennepin County Sheriff's Office's very own K9 units are once again proving their indispensable role in local law enforcement efforts. In a recent operation highlighted on the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, K9s Arci, and Kai, alongside Deputies Schiller and Feldman, played pivotal roles in nabbing a juvenile auto theft suspect. This collaborative effort between two- and four-legged deputies resulted in the recovery of a stolen vehicle, and more alarmingly, an illegal firearm.
The juvenile, a part of a trio observed breaking into vehicles at a dealership, attempted to outpace the police in a stolen car. Despite the breakneck attempt at evasion, they were ultimately unable to match the combined forces of seasoned deputies and their keen-nosed canine counterparts. According to a post on Hennepin County Sheriff's official Facebook page, the apprehended individuals are now facing charges that include a variety of new offenses, along with answering to outstanding warrants for previous allegations of assault and fleeing law enforcement.
The seized firearm brings to light a concerning category of weapon, the so-called "ghost gun" – unserialized and untraceable. Making the situation more dire, this particular gun was equipped with a switch that allowed it to fire fully automatically, substantially increasing its potential for lethality.
