The initial crime, a harrowing assault blended with a robbery, was reported to have occurred on June 8. In this incident, the female victim was subjected to a sexual assault by an adult male suspect. When another male intervened in her defense, he was quickly assaulted by multiple male suspects, who proceeded to claim the woman's purse and belongings forcibly. The male victim, later transported to the hospital, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The following day, Valdez and McDuffie are accused of committing an armed robbery, with Valdez allegedly firing a gun at one of the victims.
In a later confrontation, on June 22, Valdez was involved in another altercation where he reportedly discharged a firearm inside a residence. This string of violent acts led to a deeper investigation by the SJPD Robbery Unit Detectives, subsequently resulting in arrest warrants being issued for both suspects. Valdez was apprehended last Tuesday, with a handgun being seized during a search of his residence. McDuffie was arrested in Campbell on the following day, both men now facing serious charges related to the armed robberies.
Valdez is currently facing additional charges for attempted homicide.
