In the latest move to increase its accessibility to the community, the Montana Branch of the Santa Monica Public Library has added self-service hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays, a convenience that allows pre-approved members to swipe their library cards and help themselves to a range of services. According to the City of Santa Monica, self-service hours will be available from 10 a.m. to noon, where patrons can engage with library resources including picking up reserved items and utilizing computer access without the presence of staff.

To utilize these new hours, library users are required to complete a Self-Service Hours Application and Agreement, which is accessible online and at full-service locations. Once registered, patrons don't need to go through the process again for other branches offering similar access. The City of Santa Monica has stated convenience for the community as a key driver behind the extension of self-service hours at the Montana Branch.

Full-service hours remain as they were at various branches including the Main Library, with doors open from Monday to Thursday till 8 p.m., and till 5 p.m. on Saturdays. The Pico Branch also continues to operate with its established full-service schedule, closing at 8 p.m. on weekdays, excluding Monday, and at 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, as detailed by the City of Santa Monica. These hours ensure that patrons still have ample time to visit the full-service libraries for more complex needs or personal assistance from the staff.
