A Florida man, originally from Sarasota, now faces federal charges for an altercation involving federal courthouse security officers in Pittsburgh. Steven M. Seitz, aged 34, was indicted by a grand jury for allegedly assaulting federal officers during an incident at the Joseph F. Weis, Jr. U.S. Courthouse earlier this month, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
The indictment alleges that on July 9, Seitz entered the Pittsburgh courthouse seeking the CIA and remained there despite security officers' multiple requests to depart, when asked to leave, Seitz allegedly resisted and assaulted the officers, leading to injuries amongst at least two of them. This violent interaction led to a criminal complaint being filed the same day, resulting in Seitz's detainment pending further legal action. According to the announcement from U.S. Attorney Eric G. Olshan, Seitz could face up to 20 years in prison and penalties reaching $250,000 if convicted.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicole A. Stockey is prosecuting the case, and while the indictment marks a formal accusation, it is crucial to remember Seitz's presumption of innocence until proven otherwise.
