A somber discovery was made late Saturday night at Muleshoe Lake on the San Jacinto River in northwest Houston, where the body of a swimmer was recovered following a search by the Harris County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The victim, whose identity has not been released, apparently never resurfaced after diving into the lake. The Houston Chronicle reported that a friend of the deceased alerted authorities before 9 p.m. on Saturday.
In the effort to fully to investigate the incident, search teams were dispatched to the area near Highway 90 and the San Jacinto River. It was there, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez stated, that a man informed officials his friend had jumped into the water and failed to come back up. This led to a search that extended into the evening hours.
The recovery efforts culminated just before midnight when the victim's body was located, ending the intense search. The investigation into the circumstances leading up to this tragedy is ongoing, and further information concerning the events is forthcoming.
Local authorities have not yet decided to publicly disclose the identity of the deceased, maintaining respect for the privacy of those involved in this unfortunate event. According to an article by ABC13, the HCSO marine units, along with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, undertook extensive efforts to meticulously search the lake area late into Saturday night before the grim discovery was made.
