
Seattle police are currently actively investigating a fire that broke out on a hillside in the Queen Anne neighborhood last Tuesday. The blaze, which began from a tent in an unauthorized encampment, was accompanied by multiple propane tank explosions, reports the Seattle Police Department. The incident took place near Kinnear Park and required a 1-Alarm response from emergency services, leading to an evacuation of the area for public safety.
According to police reports, the fire ignited around 4:38 p.m., sending clouds of heavy black smoke into the air, which were visible at 899 West Olympic Place. Officers and the Seattle Fire Department promptly arrived on the scene to discover the flames had already engulfed nearby brush. This necessitated an emergency response to quickly contain and extinguish the large fire, avoiding further mishaps.
No casualties or injuries have been reported following the incident. However, during the investigation, a 64-year-old man was taken into custody. He faces charges for Possession of Dangerous Weapons, in addition to a $7,500 Assault warrant. The City Attorney’s Office is additionally considering charges for Reckless Burning referred to them by police. All details surrounding the individual’s connection to the fire are still under investigation by the Arson/Bomb Squad.
