Early morning flames engulfed a building in Seattle's Eastlake neighborhood, with the Seattle Fire Department battling a 2-alarm blaze at a vacant commercial building. According to a report from the Seattle Fire Line, the fire began at approximately 12:53 a.m. in the 2900 block of Eastlake Ave. E. More than 70 personnel were dispatched to combat the fire, which proved to be too dangerous for interior attack.
Firefighters encountered flames breaking through the structure's roof, complicating their initial efforts to contain the blaze. In a defensive stance, the crews were relegated to dousing the flames from a distance after heavy smoke and the inherent risks presented by the building's compromised integrity. Residents in the vicinity were advised via an Alert Seattle message to keep their windows and doors closed to avoid the smoke, which had intensified after the roof's collapse around 2 a.m.
Despite the early morning chaos, no injuries have been reported. The fire was being brought under control throughout the morning, with firefighters working diligently to extinguish the last of it. As the fire department progresses, the investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing. Updates are expected as the situation develops and the Seattle Fire Department completes their on-scene work.
