
A tense situation in South Seattle came to an end this past Saturday as Seattle Police apprehended a man who had taken hostages inside of a local hair salon. The incident occurred on the 8400 block of Rainier Avenue South, where officers arrived following a 911 dispatch reporting a masked man with a gun overseeing hostages within the business at 10:49 a.m. on Saturday.
According to the Seattle Police Department's blotter, the man, identified as a 44-year-old, had driven from California to confront an ex-girlfriend who had left him months prior. He took the victim's phone as she attempted to call for help, threatening to "kill everyone" if police were contacted.
Negotiators were swiftly brought to the scene, where they engaged with the suspect, eventually leading to his surrender and ensuring the safe release of all captives involved. Police stated that none of the victims sustained injuries during the ordeal.
The retrieved handgun was seized as evidence by the officers at the scene. The suspect now faces several charges, including Robbery, Harassment, Kidnapping, Unlawful Possession of Firearm, as well as multiple counts of Assault and Unlawful Imprisonment. He was booked into King County Jail following the incident. Detectives in the Homicide & Assault Unit are further investigating the case.
