A tragic wave of violence swept through Lawrence, Massachusetts, as the city reported its second fatal shooting in just over a day. Early this morning, a 27-year-old man was discovered shot in the head at Riverfront State Park, a grim discovery that echoes another recent shooting in the area.
According to Boston 25 News, the Lawrence Police Department and Essex District Attorney Paul Tucker announced officers were called to the scene on Everett Street shortly before 12:30 a.m., where they found the victim, who has not yet been identified pending notification of next of kin. Tucker and Lawrence Police Chief Melix Bonilla have not made any arrests and the investigation, carried out by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit for Essex County in collaboration with local enforcement, is ongoing.
This incident occurred mere hours after a separate shooting claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy on Brook Street in Lawrence, although authorities have not released additional information about either case at this time. The two violent events in close proximity, time-wise and geographically, have stirred concerns about a rise in violent crime within the Lawrence community.
