
A fatal shooting occurred at the Main Event entertainment center in Cordova, Memphis where a security guard was killed by a fellow guard following an argument, Action News 5 reported. The incident happened on the evening of July 23rd, with the Memphis Police Department responding to a 911 call at 7:15 p.m. The victim, found with a gunshot wound, was pronounced dead at the scene, and another security guard has been detained in connection with the shooting, though charges had not been immediately filed.
"It was a fatal shot," stated Memphis Police Maj. Christopher Parker, indicating the severity of the incident, as quoted by FOX13 Memphis. A large police presence was reported at the scene, including an armored truck, though it was not involved in the altercation, the exact details of what initially sparked the fatal disagreement between the two guards remain unclear, and investigators are attempting to piece together the events leading up to the tragic outcome.
Regular visitors to Main Event expressed shock and concern over the shooting, particularly since the venue is known for its security measures. "I’m used to getting checked at the door, they make you spin around. They wand you down and check your purses and your bags," patron Alexis Partee told WREG. The fact that such an incident could happen in a place dedicated to family fun has led to a rethinking by patrons on where to spend their leisure time, with Partee adding, "It’s very concerning, especially when you’re just out trying to have fun."
Details are still emerging as the Memphis Police Department progresses with their investigation, which currently aims to determine the precise relationship between the victim and the suspect and the circumstances that led to the deadly outcome MPD is also working to confirm the employment details of both the deceased and the detained guard.
