Tragedy has struck the community of Seguin, where a promising high school senior, Chloe Belicek, lost her life following a severe car accident, as confirmed by Seguin ISD Superintendent Dr. Veronica Vijil in a sorrowful declaration. "Chloe was a bright, engaging young lady who embodied the Matador Spirit. She was loved by her teachers, coaches, administrators and fellow students, especially her teammates on the volleyball and softball teams, and those who were her friends in FFA. She will be missed by our Matador Family. Please join me in keeping the family and friends of Chloe Belicek in your prayers," Dr. Vijil lamented, calling for thoughts and prayers for Chloe's family and friends in this time of loss, as detailed by Kens 5.
Earlier reports had detailed the community's embrace of hope as Chloe, a respected student-athlete, lay in critical condition; vigils and prayer gatherings were swiftly arranged to show solidarity and support her fight for life, Seguin ISD Athletic Director Craig Dailey, his voice heavy with concern and care, said in an interview with the Seguin Gazette, "She’s currently still in the hospital in Hays County in critical condition. She’s still on life support so only time will tell".
The outpouring of support continued as the St. James Catholic School in Seguin has begun collecting donations for the Belicek family to alleviate some of their burdens during this unimaginably difficult time. The details regarding the accident, which reportedly took place in San Marcos, are still pending clarity from local authorities, and as the Seguin community comes to terms with the loss of one of their own, they rally behind the grieving family in a testament to the town’s unity.
Remembrance of Chloe's life and legacy manifests not only in the echoes of tributes by the superintendent but is mirrored in Dailey's words that capture her determination and spirit, "Chloe's a fighter, one of the hardest workers in this school," a sentiment that while holding truth now segues into collective mourning, Dailey having grown up in Seguin and understanding the community's closeness, expressed his firm belief that the town’s residents would join forces in support and that Chloe's influence across sports, academics, and community endeavors would be profoundly missed "We always come together in times of need, no matter what it is," he reflected, envisioning a united front of resilience and mutual comfort.
Those wishing to help by providing gift card donations can do so through St. James Catholic School, the details of which were provided by the church's Parish Secretary, Kelly Roybal, who advised that contributors ensure the cards are labeled for the Belicek family, with options to drop off the cards at the school or the church, as explained in the Seguin Gazette.
