
An investigation has been launched after a Seminole County Jail inmate died following a fight with another inmate, per details offered by local law enforcement. 30-year-old Matthew Wilson reportedly engaged in a scuffle with another inmate which caused him to hit his head against the ground. It was roughly two hours later when Wilson, complained of severe pain, prompting medical evaluation by the jail staff. Wilson was taken to the hospital for further treatment but passed away on the morning of July 18th, as reported by FOX 35 Orlando.
Wilson's altercation occurred around 7 p.m. at the John E. Polk Correctional Facility, according to WESH. Initially, Wilson did not inform deputies of the incident or seek immediate attention for his injury, it wasn't until he started experiencing, pronounced discomfort that the situation was escalated medically.
Reviewing security camera footage, detectives have come to believe that Wilson likely incited the conflict, making the other inmate's response a case of self-defense. As such, no charges have been filed about Wilson's death. Before this incident, Wilson was held on several counts of probation violation stemming from an April 25th arrest.
