Officials reported that the Cessna Skyhawk experienced difficulties, resulting in its sudden descent and ultimately flipping over at the airstrip's southern end, as confirmed by San Diego Fire-Rescue authorities.
The accident, which unfolded around 11:56 a.m., involved two individuals who, despite the distressing situation, managed to emerge with only minor injuries. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, data from FlightAware indicated that the aircraft was airborne for merely three minutes before its fateful turnaround and rapid decline in speed and altitude ensued.
Witnesses captured footage of the aftermath, showing the aircraft inverted in a field beside the airstrip—a sight far removed from the usual composure of the area's flight operations. Passersby, who caught the aftermath on camera, saw two individuals from the downed plane walking away from the wreckage.
No subsequent fire erupted at the crash site, adding a sliver of relief amidst the ordeal. Personal Aviation Inc., located in Poway, owns the embattled aircraft, as listed on the Federal Aviation Administration’s website.
