Sound Transit has announced a gesture of gratitude towards our service members. From July 29 to August 4, in concordance with the celebratory events, military personnel, embracing active duty members, veterans, and retirees, will be accorded complimentary rides on various transit lines including Link light rail, Sounder commuter trains, and Sound Transit Express buses.

This initiative is designed to facilitate smooth travel for those who have donned the uniform in service to our nation. Sound Transit stipulates that showing a military ID suffices to board without charge for those not in uniform. Service members are advised to carry a Uniformed Identification Card, a Veteran Health Identification Card, or a Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty Form (also known as a DD-214) as valid proof of service.

Further reports from KIRO 7 highlight the week’s festivities, which will be marked by a parade of ships through Elliott Bay and ship tours at Pier 46—events expected to draw crowds in celebration of those who serve. The transit agency encourages all travelers heading to Seafair showcases to anticipate traffic and allocate extra time for commutes that might be affected by road closures and potential delays during this high-spirited time.

KOMO News reiterated Sound Transit’s recommendation for all customers to plan wisely for Seafair-related commutes.
