A fatal car accident in Southeast D.C. has claimed the life of Taneisha Parker, a 34-year-old woman from Capitol Heights, MD, and injured an altruistic pedestrian who had stopped to assist her. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) reports that the crash occurred early Sunday morning when Parker's vehicle, a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu, struck several parked vehicles on East Capitol Street and flipped over.

Individuals who happened upon the scene attempted to aid Parker and her passenger. While they were doing so, a 2013 Lexus GS350, driven by 39-year-old Terrance Gordan of Southeast, D.C., collided with both the overturned vehicle and a male pedestrian who was helping. Gordan allegedly fled the scene on foot after the incident. The male pedestrian, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, was taken to a local hospital.

Both Parker and her passenger were also transported to an area hospital. Parker succumbed to her injuries, while the condition of the passenger remains unclear. In response to the incident, MPD launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of Gordan at a nearby DCFEMS firehouse. He was found to have injuries consistent with being involved in the collision. As noted in the official MPD press release, he was subsequently charged with Unlawful Entry and Leaving After Colliding.
