Bostonians brace yourselves, the intense heat wave that's had the city sweltering is expected to break with a bout of thunderstorms later today. Temperatures, which have soared to the mid-90s, are due to culminate in stormy weather by this afternoon according to NBC Boston. The anticipated thunderstorms bring with them not only relief from the heat but also a risk of localized flooding. Residents are advised to keep an eye on the skies as the slower storm systems mean potential for more sustained rainfall and the associated dangers.
Following the storms, the mercury is set to drop to more seasoned summer temperatures with Thursday forecasted to reach a high near 88 degrees and a relaxing dip to around 67 degrees at night. The National Weather Service reports a modest chance of showers in the early morning, afterwards, skies should clear up as fresher, drier air moves in, setting the stage for several days of ideal summer conditions.
Boston has been grappling with a humidity streak, enduring 15 days of dew points of 70 or above, creating a consistency of air that feels thick, heavy, and languid. A welcome break is on the horizon, though, as the passing storms are forecasted to carry away the mugginess, leaving behind a more agreeable climate. The city can expect sunny skies and agreeable temperatures from late Thursday through to Monday, promising a stretch of excellent summer weather.
As the region looks forward to this reprieve, the weekend maintains summer warmth with highs persistently in the high 80s. Pleasantly, evening temperatures are projected to settle in the mid-60s to low 70s, perfect for those nocturnal adventures or serene nights in. Friday will bask in sunshine, with temperatures reaching a high near 86 degrees, while on Saturday temperatures, are expected to peak near 89 degrees. It will be mostly sunny skies again on Sunday rounding off a spell of what can aptly be described as a stretch of superb weather.
