
The Metropolitan Police Department has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection to a Southeast shooting incident that occurred in mid-April.
On April 14, at approximately 2:20 p.m., police were called to the 2300 block of Marion Barry Avenue, Southeast, following reports of gunfire, on arrival, they discovered an adult male with gunshot injuries, who was subsequently taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening wounds, according to a press release by the MPD.
The suspect, identified as 53-year-old Derrick Dion Gladden of Southeast, D.C., was arrested Yesterday, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant. The Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force executed the arrest, which resulted in Gladden facing charges for Assault with A Dangerous Weapon (Gun).
Detailed information about the circumstances leading up to the April 14 shooting has not been disclosed, however, Gladden's apprehension, nearly three months after the incident, highlights ongoing efforts by authorities to address gun violence in the city in that time the community has been on high alert, awaiting progress in the case, as the police continued their investigation.
