The deputies confirmed that the suspect remained on the scene and there was no further threat to the residents of the complex after the shooting, which was isolated to a single apartment unit. In the incident's aftermath, the wounded male was transported to a local hospital where he is in critical condition. The identity of the victim was later revealed as 38-year-old Clifton Lee Johnson, who had recently arrived in Houston from Florida.
The investigators have dug deeper into the case, uncovering a narrative of an estranged husband, identified as Kerry Cunningham, who forced his way into the apartment with a handgun. According to the officials, he found his estranged wife’s male friend hiding, leading to an argument culminating in the fatal shooting. Law enforcement reported that the woman had moved to the complex to create distance from Cunningham and had not expected the deadly reunion.
Following the incident, the authorities arrested Cunningham and he now faces a charge of Capital Murder. He was processed and booked into the Harris County Jail for his alleged crime. The investigation continues.
