Orange County was left reeling as a dual homicide took place on Independence Day, with two men fatally shot in incidents minutes apart, and a suspect now in custody. The 48-year-old Leandro Correa faces a charge of first-degree murder following the deaths of 45-year-old Jose Carrasquillo and 27-year-old Eduardo Soto, with further charges in the Soto case expected to be brought forth, according to ClickOrlando.
Responding to an alert at approximately 2:07 p.m. on the 5200 block of Sailfish Street, deputies discovered Carrasquillo with gunshot wounds, after this, at around 2:20 p.m., they attended another grim scene at a mobile home in the Starlight Ranch community, where Soto's body was found, which was less than a 3-mile drive and the shootings are believed to be drug-related. FOX 35 Orlando identified that both victims succumbed to their injuries after being transported to the hospital.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has divulged few details of the incidents however, the motive behind these violent acts seems to be connected to narcotics dealing, increasing the complexity surrounding the tragic events of the holiday shootings. At present, Correa is being held without bond in the Orange County Jail in connection to Carrasquillo’s murder.
