The Sacramento Police Department announced that the suspect involved in a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this month has surrendered to authorities. The incident, which left a woman dead, took place on July 8 at a residence located on Northstead Drive in the Northgate area of Sacramento.
Around 10 a.m. on the day of the shooting, officers responded to a call for medical aid at the home. Upon arrival, they discovered a woman with a single gunshot wound who was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene. According to a statement obtained by ABC10, the woman had been shot at least once.
The suspect, identified as 51-year-old Urberto Dotson of Sacramento, turned himself in to police on July 28. Following his surrender, he was booked into jail on charges related to homicide. Dotson's act of turning himself in concluded the police's search that began shortly after the shooting took place.
"Dotson turned himself in to detectives on Sunday," the Sacramento Police Department said. This development was also reported by CBS Sacramento, which states that detectives had identified Dotson as a suspect prior to him surrendering. The Sacramento Police Department has not released further details about the motive or circumstances surrounding the shooting.
