The Metropolitan Police Department has taken a man into custody in connection with a series of burglaries at construction sites in Northwest Washington, D.C. The arrest follows incidents on two separate days where construction site offices were targeted by thieves.
Early on Friday morning, July 24, around 7:18 a.m., the intruder, who police later identified as 28-year-old Antonini Flores-Diaz, entered the site office on the 3400 block of 14th Street, made off with property, and escaped before anyone could stop him. Having no fixed address, Flores-Diaz managed to elude capture after the first burglary, as reported by the Metropolitan Police Department.
The suspect allegedly struck again on Saturday, July 27, approximately at 4:14 a.m. at a site office in the same block. The police response was timely on this occasion, and one suspect was apprehended. Flores-Diaz now faces two counts of Burglary Two in these incidents.
Flores-Diaz is currently in custody, and the investigation into the second case remains active. Authorities are continuing to piece together the details, urging the public to come forward with any information. Provided with the promise of up to $1,000, the reward is being offered by the police for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this ongoing case. Police are keen to stress that those with knowledge of the incident should not approach suspects but rather call (202) 727-9099 or send tips via the TEXT TIP LINE at 50411, as stated by a Metropolitan Police Department release.
