A fatal DUI accident has left one dead and others injured after a two-vehicle collision in south Phoenix on Saturday. According to AZ Family, 44-year-old Henry Mandley was ejected from a vehicle following the incident that occurred near 35th and Southern avenues around 5:40 p.m. Mandley was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and tragically passed away early Sunday morning.

Authorities apprehended 22-year-old Fernando Rodriguez-Sanchez, the driver accused of causing the crash. Police allege that he was attempting to quickly pass stopped traffic by using the bike lane and subsequently ran a red light, colliding with Mandley's car. FOX 10 Phoenix reports that Rodriguez-Sanchez allegedly attempted to flee the scene on foot with another person but was soon arrested.

In addition to Mandley, a woman, presumed to be the driver, along with two minors who were in the victim’s car, were hospitalized. The woman and children sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Rodriguez-Sanchez now faces several charges, including aggravated assault, endangerment, failure to remain at a fatal collision scene, and felony DUI charges. As the investigation continues, police have not yet disclosed any updates on the second suspect who is also reported to have tried to escape the scene.
