Earlier today, before dawn bled into day, a Newcastle gun store was the target of an audacious theft. According to The Sacramento Bee, an unidentified individual tunneled into Foothill Firearms, evading detection initially but leaving behind a video record of their crime. "They tried to spray paint the camera to block it, but they spray painted the one and only one that doesn’t work ... so we have them all the way through," co-owner Jamie Kuntz informed the publication. The estimated loss of the firearms stolen comes to approximately $40,000, with the suspect leaving with up to 50 guns.
Details from KCRA share that the suspect methodically removed the siding around 1:20 a.m., eventually gaining entry some time after 3 a.m. The heist was carried out with a sense of precision, the thief filling two duffel bags with handguns before making an escape without any ammunition. It remains unconfirmed, whether the suspect had an accomplice or acted as a lone wolf.
The repercussions of the theft ripple beyond mere monetary loss. Foothill Firearms is a family concern, and as Kuntz shared with The Sacramento Bee, the impact on small, independent businesses such as theirs is significant. "This is really messed up for a small, family-owned business," said Kuntz. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office, tasked with the investigation, is toiling to gather more details on the suspect from the video evidence.
