A recent Little League baseball game in Wilson, North Carolina, escalated into an altercation between a coach and an umpire, leading to their suspensions, as reported by several media outlets. The incident occurred during the 8 p.m. game on Monday between Cherryville and Bull City from Durham, in the top of the fifth inning, according to QC News. Video footage seems to capture the moment the coach approached the umpire at home plate, initiating a verbal exchange, which led to the coach shoving the umpire. The umpire, in turn, retaliated not only by engaging in the physical conflict, but also using his facemask as a weapon against the coach.
Following the altercation, both the assistant coach and the umpire were suspended, the town of Wilson announced on Tuesday. The town has a stance of no tolerance for such incidents, indicating suspensions are likely.
