Motorists in Tampa are facing a detour today and for the next couple of days. The Tampa Water Department has shut down the East Broadway Avenue stretch between North 61st Street and North 62nd Street. The closure, as reported by the Tampa Government website, is to facilitate urgent repairs on a water main break that has erupted beneath the busy city street.
Commuters are advised to seek out alternative routes as the usual thoroughfare will not be passable. The city has placed barricades and signs to assist with rerouting and to keep the traffic flow as smooth as is possible during high repair times. Anyone driving in the vicinity should be ready to heed these guides and to use caution, with the hopes to not bog down the already congested alternate lanes.
According to a statement from the Tampa Government website, the works are expected to wrap up by 5pm Tomorrow, allowing life to return to its routine flow. It’s worth mentioning, though, that this schedule is somewhat at the mercy of the skies any severe weather may push back the timetable for completion.
The Tampa Water Department is calling for patience during the repair period, while also ensuring the public that they are working to quickly to restore normalcy. With such disruptions, one can only imagine the frustrations of the daily commute yet it’s clear that the inconvenience is a temporary measure against the alternative of a compromised and potentially unsafe infrastructure.
