Tragedy struck on the Northwest Side of Chicago when a 16-year-old boy became the victim of a brutal beating and a subsequent hit-and-run incident late Friday night. According to a report by the Chicago Tribune, the assault happened around 11:45 p.m. in the Jefferson Park neighborhood, with the 7300 block of West Gregory Street being the scene of the harrowing events.
A group of males, whose faces were obscured by the dark, reportedly attacked the teenage boy before entering a white sedan. Adding to the night's horrors, the driver of the sedan took the violence to a deadly new level by striking the teen with the car, leaving the boy with multiple grave injuries. After the assault, the assailants fled, leaving the 16-year-old on the ground, battered and bruised, in critical condition.
As reported by FOX 32 Chicago, the boy was quickly transported to Lutheran General Hospital, where he was treated for a broken jaw, punctured lungs, and other injuries. His condition was listed as critical, painting a somber picture of his road to recovery ahead.
Investigations into the incident are currently underway by Area Five detectives, as has been reported, who are piecing together the evening's events. Meanwhile, no suspects have been brought into custody as the search for those responsible continues. With little information, the community holds on to the hope that justice will be served for the violence visited upon one of its youngest members as soon as possible.
