An ATV accident on South Platte Lake Drive has raised concerns about ATV safety in Morrison County. The Morrison County Sheriff's Office reports that 19-year-old Madison Nystel of Woodbury was involved in a single-vehicle incident on the evening of June 30. According to Morrison County, Nystel lost control on the dirt road and was ejected from the vehicle, suffering injuries whose severity has not been disclosed.
Authorities responded to the accident around 9:24 pm, about ten miles north of Hillman, MN, in Richardson Township. The victim was transported to North Memorial Hospital by North Air Care, as per Morrison County. It was noted that at the time of the accident, Nystel was not wearing a helmet – a point of concern that Sheriff Larsen emphasized in the aftermath.
"This is an unfortunate event and serves as a reminder of the importance of safety when operating ATV’s," Sheriff Larsen said in a statement made by the Morrison County Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff continued to stress the importance of following traffic laws and being familiar with the equipment individuals are operating.
