Seattle's Chinatown-International District witnessed a tense situation this past Sunday as police apprehended three armed juveniles during the Chinatown Seafair Parade. According to the Seattle Police Department's Blotter, the incident occurred near 7th Ave South and South Weller Street at about 7:31 p.m. Responding to reports, officers were able quickly to locate and detain the suspects — all three boys were found in possession of handguns, two of which had been reported stolen.
The suspects, aged 13 and 14, were found to have serious firepower on them. One of the 14-year-olds was carrying a semiautomatic handgun while the other had a handgun modified to include a 30-round magazine and an auto-sear allowing for automatic firing. The SPD Blotter detailed that the 13-year-old was in possession of an untraceable, polymer-80 handgun, also equipped with an auto-sear — a component which makes a firearm capable of rapid discharge. Each weapon was seized as evidence and the juveniles were booked into juvenile detention on a range of charges.
The Gun Violence Reduction Unit has since taken the lead in this unfolding case. Additional charges are being considered as detectives progress through their investigation. Clark Children & Family Justice Center and is facing serious charges, including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Carry of a Pistol, and Felony Harassment.
