In a tragic incident on the morning of July 4th, a toddler was struck and subsequently killed by a pickup truck at the Steel Creek Park and Family Campground in Burke County. According to QC News, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that the event took place at around 10:40 a.m. off NC Hwy. 181, when a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado attempted to pull around a building and struck the 18-month-old child who had walked in front of the vehicle.
The child, whose identity has not been disclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Highway Patrol disclosed that no charges are expected to be filed in this case, reflecting a heart-wrenching outcome to what appears to have been a horrific accident. As often happens in such cases, the details are no doubt still too sharply felt for those involved to fully process the full weight of their implications.
Further information obtained from WBTV clarified that the toddler was hit while the truck was maneuvering around one of the buildings within the campground. This aligns with the description given by the State Highway Patrol and paints a clearer picture of the moments leading up to the tragedy.
