An employee of the Town of Clover was taken into custody after a nearly five-hour standoff with law enforcement in York County, officials reported on Friday. The incident ignited tensions in the Stanton Street neighborhood shortly after the clock swept past midnight, leading to the mobilization of law enforcement including the Clover Police and SWAT teams.
Responding to the initial report of a possible domestic skirmish, Clover Police officers were greeted by the sound of gunfire emanating from within the residence, as per WBTV. The suspect, later identified as a male town employee, allegedly fired shots at the officers from inside before additional law enforcement was summoned, transforming the scene into a barricaded escalation.
During the standoff, the negotiation efforts were stymied by the crackle of more gunfire inside the house, prompting an enlargement of the police presence. The situation, which remained volatile for hours, led to the evacuation of neighboring homes as a precaution, described by QC News. SWAT personnel eventually resolved the standoff, apprehending the man without further incident.
This morning confrontation drew to a close after the individual was secured by SWAT officers and handed over to the local police force. Following a hospital evaluation, an arrest ensued, yet it is noteworthy that throughout the ordeal, no injuries were reported.
