Residents in Delaware County might want to plan for extra travel time next week. PennDOT has announced that HBO is setting to restrict two well-traveled state highways in Edgmont and Newtown townships for upcoming projects. Drivers are encouraged to take note of the closures and plan their commutes accordingly to avoid possible delays.
The specifics of the travel disruptions are as follows: On Tuesday, August 6, and Wednesday, August 7, from 7:00 AM to 1:00 AM the following morning, Gradyville Road will be off-limits between Delchester Road and Providence Road in Edgmont Township. Motorists will have to temporarily detour to use Providence Road, Route 3 (West Chester Pike), and Delchester Road to navigate around the closure. Although local access will be maintained up to the zone of work, residents should prepare to potentially adjust their routes.
Similarly, on those same days but starting later in the evening, Route 3 (West Chester Pike) will also face rolling lane closures in both directions between Campus Boulevard and Bishop Hollow Road in Newtown Township. These restrictions are slated from 7:00 PM to 1:00 AM the following morning. "All scheduled activities are weather dependent," as per the information provided by PennDOT.
The closures are implemented by HBO under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit and are part of planned projects in the area. With backups and delays expected, PennDOT advises drivers to allow for additional time when traveling through or near the construction areas. By factoring in the closures, residents and commuters can help to ensure they reach their destinations as smoothly as possible.
