A Tucson man has been handed a 42-month prison sentence for a child pornography offense, announced the United States Attorney's Office. Enrique Adrian Yanez, 36, faced sentencing by U.S. District Judge John C. Hinderaker after a guilty plea for one count of knowing access to child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Arizona.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents first uncovered Yanez's misdeeds in the summer of 2022 when distributing child pornography through a file-sharing network was discovered. Upon searching Yanez's residence, agents located additional illicit files on a computer that belonged to him.
As reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office, following his release from prison, Yanez will be subject to a supervised release for a lifetime and must register as a sex offender. The case, part of the Project Safe Childhood initiative, aims to fight the widespread issue of child exploitation.
Project Safe Childhood was launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to better use federal, state, and local resources for locating and prosecuting Internet-based child exploitation and for identifying and rescuing victims. Knowing the sensitive nature of these crimes, Assistant United States Attorney Nathaniel J. Walters handled the prosecution of this case.
The investigation in Yanez’s case was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations, Nogales. For more information on efforts to combat child sexual exploitation, the public is encouraged to visit the Project Safe Childhood website.
