Two additional suspects have been apprehended in the murder of 13-year-old Matthiew Stavkovy, who was fatally shot at Turnkey Park in Kent last Tuesday night. A 16-year-old and 19-year-old were taken into custody yesterday at a Covington residence, as reported by KING 5. The extent of their involvement in the incident is not yet known, and charges have not been filed against them.
During the incident, Matthiew Stavkovy was at the park with friends to sell camera equipment—a meeting arranged through the OfferUp website. After a gun was drawn and shots fired, two friends attempted to flee on an ATV, according to KOMO News. As he tried to get away, Stavkovy told his friend that he had been shot. He later died from injuries after first responders found him with a gunshot wound to the back.
Kent Police Chief Rafael Padilla expressed his hope that the arrests would provide solace, acknowledging there's no compensation for the loss endured by the family and community. "From the time our officers responded to the tragic shooting of Matthiew, our detectives have worked nonstop to identify and arrest those responsible", Padilla said, as per FOX 13 Seattle. He also paid tribute to the commitment of the Kent Police Department officers who are, in his words, "dedicated to serving and protecting the Kent Community."
Faysal J. Abdullahi, 18, had been previously arrested in connection with the shooting. Set at $2 million, Abdullahi's bail reflected the charges of first-degree murder and first-degree robbery brought against him. During a stakeout, law enforcement apprehended Abdullahi, who had the camera bag from the sale at the park, as detailed by KING 5. Abdullahi's arraignment is scheduled for August 5 at the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent.
