Fort Lauderdale was rocked by a drive-by shooting before 8 p.m. yesterday, leaving a devastating toll: two people are dead and four are injured, including a child. The mayhem unfolded near a store on the 700 block of Northwest 10th Terrace, according to authorities.
Responding to the tragic scene, crews could not save two of the individuals caught in the crossfire. A woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene, and a man passed away after being rushed to the hospital. WSVN reported about the statement made by Fort Lauderdale Police Department's Casey Liening, "One adult female victim was pronounced dead here on scene. One adult male victim was pronounced dead at the hospital."
While the investigation is underway, authorities currently see the incident as isolated. Liening stated in a release acquired by CBS News Miami, "Preliminary information reveals this may have been a drive-by shooting and was an isolated incident." No suspects have been apprehended thus far, but the case is being diligently investigated.
Police believe this shooting was targeted, suggesting there is no imminent threat to public at large. Witness to the violence, they pleaded with the community for assistance. "We know there were witnesses to this incident, so we urge anyone who saw anything, heard anything, or knows anything to contact us immediately," Liening communicated to WSVN.
