Two Tennessee men found themselves behind bars following a perilous high-speed chase through West Memphis, which culminated broadly in Memphis, as reported by both Action News 5 and WREG News Channel 3. The suspects, identified as Kylan Cunningham, 23, of Drummonds, and Tre’Von Burnett, 23, of Covington, reportedly led authorities on a chase that involved speeds exceeding 100 mph and ended with a tactical vehicle intervention.
The incident began last Saturday night, around 11:36 p.m., with Arkansas State Police responding to reports of a black 2021 Ford Mustang driving recklessly and nearly causing crashes. According to Local Memphis, dash cam footage released by the ASP shows the Mustang speeding through the intersection of Broadway Boulevard and Martin Luther King Drive in West Memphis, setting the stage for an intense pursuit.
The chase ensued along Interstate 55 South Service Road, eventually taking a turn onto the North Service Road. It was near the intersection with Martin Luther King Drive that ASP employed a tactical vehicle intervention to halt the suspects, who then attempted to flee on foot into an adjacent grassy field. Troopers, along with the West Memphis Police Department, apprehended both Cunningham and Burnett shortly after, as per Action News 5.
The search of the vehicle unearthed a loaded black Taurus handgun, multiple vehicle key fobs, a vehicle key programming device, and illegal marijuana, as indicated by the Arkansas State Police. Both the vehicle and the handgun had been reported as stolen before the chase. Cunningham is now facing multiple felony charges, including possession of firearms by a certain person, fleeing, theft by receiving, and criminal conspiracy. Burnett's charges encompass felony theft by receiving and criminal conspiracy, amongst other offenses.
