The National Weather Service in Washington D.C. has slated a bright outlook for today, with sunny skies and temperatures climbing near the 92-degree mark. A gentle breeze from the south will pick up in the afternoon, providing a slight reprieve from the calm of the morning. As Washingtonians bask under a clear sky this evening, the barometer remains steady, pushing the night towards a warm 73 degrees, accompanied by a south wind moving at 7 mph, according to the latest update from the National Weather Service.
Looking ahead to Monday, the city is bracing for heat, with the mercury rising near 95 degrees. Caution is advised as the heat index is expected to hit as high as 101, and the southwest wind picking up between 6 to 10 mph. Nightfall does not seem to promise much cooling off, with a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm, followed by potential sporadic showers through to the early hours of Tuesday.
The forecast for Tuesday through Thursday indicates an unsettled pattern, with chances of showers and thunderstorms particularly after 2pm on Tuesday. The chance of precipitation stands at 60%, with a high close to 89 degrees. This pattern of intermittently stormy conditions will continue through to Wednesday night, with the potential for thunderstorms before 8 pm and clearer conditions later in the evening.
Looking towards the end of the week, there is an expectation for a surge in temperatures. As we near Thursday, the National Weather Service predicts sunny and hot conditions with highs pushing towards an almost unbearable 97 degrees. The slight chance of showers on Friday and Saturday does little to break the sequence of intense heat as the highs hover in the mid-90s, paired with chances of precipitation throughout the weekend.
