A 12-inch water main break has disrupted traffic along Route 51 in Uniontown, leaving commuters to navigate reduced lanes and detours. According to a WPXI report, the southbound lanes of Route 51 were initially closed early Friday morning from Upper Middletown Road to Smith Road following the incident.
Connellsville Mayor Greg Lincoln alerted residents via Facebook about the situation, which forced traffic down to one lane. The break was reported at 2:21 a.m., as confirmed by Fayette County 911, though it was not until later that our crew observed one lane had been reopened, with the other remaining firmly closed.
Detours have been put in place to alleviate some of the congestion, directing southbound traffic on Route 51 to Route 40. This information was detailed by a WTAE report, which detailed the mayor's advisement on the alternative route.
