
In a collision early Sunday morning, a Wickenburg police officer sustained minor injuries after a man, suspected to be under the influence, crashed into the patrol vehicle. The Wickenburg Police Department reported that the incident occurred around 1 a.m. when officers attempted to pull over a speeding Cadillac SUV. The driver, identified as 24-year-old Jheovanny Penuelas Fernandez, initially tried to evade law enforcement, according to a 12 News.
It was after officers decided to cease pursuit that Fernandez's vehicle collided head-on with a police cruiser. "Fernandez was driving through neighborhoods and collided, head-on, with one of our officers after we stopped following him," police said, as stated by 12News.
As per AZ Family, Fernandez had a blood alcohol content of 0.133%, which is over the legal limit. The police have since charged Fernandez with aggravated assault, endangerment, unlawful flight, DUI, reckless driving, and criminal speed.
